From the beautiful holiday party where Uncle Drosselmeyer

the battle between the Nutcracker and the Mouse Queen’s forces,
and to the sleigh ride through the crystalline snow forest to the
land of the Sugar Plum Fairy, we experience Clara’s wondrous
dream! Or, was it really only a dream?
This annual holiday favorite always sells out quickly, so you are
encouraged to reserve your tickets early.

Coppélia
Friday, February 29, 9:30 am
Coppélia is one of ballet’s great comedies. It tells the story of two
young lovers, Frantz and Swanilda, who quarrel when Swanilda
suspects that Frantz is interested in Coppélia, the beautiful and
mysterious daughter of the eccentric Dr. Coppelius.
Later that evening Swanilda and her friends sneak into Dr.
Coppelius’ house. They discover the house is full of dolls and
that Coppélia herself is a lifeless doll. When Dr. Coppelius
startles them with his return, everyone flees, except Swanilda.
Frantz enters, unaware that Coppélia is a doll. Dr. Coppelius
offers him a potion, using him to give life to Coppélia. Swanilda
impersonates Coppélia to save Frantz. While Dr. Coppelius
believes that Coppélia really comes to life, Swanilda finds an
opportunity to escape with Frantz. The young lovers find each
other again and are married in an enchanting ceremony.

Welcome to Mobile Ballet’s 2007-2008 Discover
Dance program. We offer the excitement of live,
fully-staged presentations of classic ballets to
elementary, middle and high school students
throughout the Gulf Coast region. This arts
education program is an extension of our
regular performance season.
For many students, Discover Dance productions
are their first exposure to the visual and musical
arts that comprise ballet. The love of dance is
born and nurtured. To enhance the learning
experience, we provide a comprehensive
teacher’s guide. These materials include the
history of the ballet being presented,
information about the composer, a ballet
glossary, and photos and explanations of various
ballet steps.
Mobile Ballet deeply discounts the regular
ticket prices for Discover Dance to make
attendance affordable for students. To offer
seats to as many children as possible, we limit
the number of teachers or chaperones per
student (1 adult per 5 students for K-2nd; 1 adult
per 10 students for 3rd-12th). If the adults
attending exceed these limits, they will be
charged the full rate of public performances.
